Client: Potts Parry Ives and Young, Architects

This purpose built single storey nursery was constructed of traditional brick and block with some added architectural details of cedar cladding, internal exposed glulam beams and a very open plan feel to the nursery itself.

Internally the nursery contains, toilet facilities, staff shower and WC and a purpose built kitchen. The main nursery area which has large double doors which open out onto a play area and soft play.

To service the building we installed underfloor heating, sanitaryware, full electrical requirements; lighting, power, data and security, also decoration and floor finishes throughout.

The ground conditions meant a complicated foundation solution had to be incorporated and installed on an incredibly restricted site.

The project challenges included the need to manage the archaeological constraints associated with working within a few hundred yards of Monkgate, York and also the traffic, parking and delivery constraints associated with working in a city centre. All of which were successfully planned and integrated.
